Job summary

Contra Costa County Risk Management Department seeks a Risk Manager to lead the Workers’ Compensation Program, coordinating with the County Director of Risk Management and supervising program staff.

The role requires a strong communicator and leader with knowledge of California workers’ compensation laws, data analysis, and workflow optimization. Hybrid work options are available within a county setting.

Qualifications

• An effective communicator and professional written/verbal skills.
• A leader who can coach a team to achieve goals.
• Familiarity with software applications including database spreadsheets.
• Able to maintain working relationships with multiple County departments.
• Organized and able to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the self-insured and self-administered Workers’ Compensation Program for the County and special districts.
• Supervise Workers’ Compensation Program staff in investigation and adjustment of claims.
• Oversee the administration of the County’s Occupational Return to Work Program.
• Interpret California Code and laws applicable to Workers’ Compensation benefits and stay current on new legislation.
• Serve as main contact with county departments, outside agencies, and audits.
• Develop, review, and modify procedures for adjustment of injury cases and workflows.
• Maintain statistics on open reserves, future cost projections, and incurred costs.
