Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Entry Level Substation Structural Engineer for our Denver, CO area with opportunities to support Billings, MT and other locations. You will assist in design, research, and construction tasks for buildings, bridges, and infrastructure, ensuring safety and compliance.

The role emphasizes data analysis, documentation, and collaboration with a growing Mountain Civil/Structural Substation Team, with potential travel to project sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 0–1 year post-education experience.
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• Familiarity with design/build concepts.
• Familiarity with structural and civil construction laws and codes.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking.
• Ability to work independently or in a team and meet objectives.
• Basic technical writing and office software skills.
• Familiarity with design software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
• Commitment to safety policies and flexible schedules; occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from sites, surveys, GIS data, and maps for project development and construction.
• Support basic structural engineering work including research and inspections of site conditions and conformance with standards.
• Provide entry‑level technical assistance on design requirements to ensure safety and functionality.
• Verify site characteristics to secure structural soundness against loads and environmental pressures.
• Generate documentation using drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and site logs.
• Follow safety guidelines and project procedures; complete training on tasks.
• Adhere to company codes of conduct and ethical standards.
• Take on additional tasks as needed by project needs.
