Job summary

ECS Limited in Austin is seeking an Assistant Lab Manager to oversee the quality control and supervision of junior staff in the construction materials testing (CMT) lab. You will ensure safety, calibration, and compliance with QA/QC policies while leading testing across soils and concrete projects.

Responsibilities include mentoring staff, coordinating workloads, and supporting project and department managers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3+ years of related experience.
• Must have and be willing to maintain basic concrete and/or soils lab certifications.
• Must be able to lift 60-80 pounds.
• Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).
• Ability to work effectively with peers, supervisors, and clients.
• Good understanding of construction materials laboratory testing equipment, methods, principles, applications, and ASTM testing standards.
• Proficient at data interpretation and evaluation of CMT techniques and results.
• Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems.
• Knowledge of ECS systems and procedures is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Laboratory safety and compliance oversight of laboratory activities, PPE use, and calibration/maintenance of equipment.
• Oversee soils testing incl. Atterberg limits, gradation, swell, moisture, UCS, proctor tests.
• Oversee concrete testing incl. labeling, curing, temperature logs.
• Interpret test data and prepare reports for lab technicians.
• Mentor and train lab staff; assist with scheduling, project manager support, recruiting, and business development.
