Job summary

AmeriCorps, Danville Science Center, Danville, Virginia, seeks a part-time STEM Educator for the RHT STEM Educator Danville Science Center program. The member will engage visitors with live demonstrations and partner with staff to create engaging STEM education experiences for students and families.

The role emphasizes volunteer recruitment, outreach, and accurate documentation, with a provided stipend and training as part of AmeriCorps. Program runs 09/01/2026–08/31/2027.

Qualifications

• Education level: Some college.

Responsibilities

• Provide live science demonstrations to audiences ranging from visiting school groups to families.
• Becoming familiar and using preexisting exhibitions such as the Science on the Sphere and prepackaged educational kits on science related topics at the Danville Science Center
• Collaborate with staff, fellow AmeriCorps members, and partner organizations to develop and support service projects in the primary areas of focus (literacy), support pre-approved service projects, and increase STEM opportunities post accompaniment.
• Recruit volunteers to support identified STEM service opportunities.
• Provide support to out-of-school time activities and camps at the Danville Science Center, IALR, or other service sites.
• Attend all mandatory host site, service site, and Dan River Year meetings.
• Attend all planned training sessions for AmeriCorps members.
• Complete and submit accurate and timely documentation
• Participate in days of service.

Job description

Member will provide direct service to students and visitors at the Danville Science Center. Activities support southern Virginia’s interest in building the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) capacity of the region’s citizens. The member’s primary area of focus will be to serve at the Danville Science Center to stimulate interest in the sciences through educational experiences that inspire guests of all ages to understand the relevance of science in their lives through compelling exhibits and engaging interactive programs.
