Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s SEI seeks a Reverse Engineer Researcher for the Threat Analysis directorate to tackle malware analysis and advanced reverse engineering challenges in support of government and industry partners.

The role requires effective communication, rigorous technical work, and willingness to travel (~15%) to sponsor sites and conferences. You will contribute to AI-assisted reverse engineering efforts and publish insights with the broader security community.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or related discipline with three years of experience; OR MS with one year of experience.
  • Experience with reverse engineering malware analysis and complex threats.
  • Ability to balance rapid prototyping with maintainable tool development.

Responsibilities

  • Reverse engineer malicious code to support high-impact customers and develop new analysis methods and tools.
  • Document results in reports and presentations.
  • Explore AI to support reverse engineering and apply it to AI systems.
  • Prototype and transition new analysis methods and tools.
  • Identify and document emerging security threats.
  • Engage with the security community through papers and talks.
