Job summary

Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking a Revenues Team Leader to be based at Kendal with flexible working options. The role will oversee a Revenues Team delivering essential services and improvements in a fast-paced environment.

You will lead staff, manage performance, and work closely with stakeholders to ensure compliant and customer-centric service delivery across council tax, business rates and debt recovery. This role requires strong leadership and collaborative capability.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading a Revenues team with performance management and development of staff.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and cross-service collaboration across directorates.
  • Experience working in a Revenues & Benefits environment is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multifunctional Revenues Team with responsibility for performance management and guidance.
  • Develop and deliver a legislatively compliant, customer-centric Revenues Service.
  • Oversee council tax, business rates, debt recovery and related initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Council's directorates to deliver the Council Plan priorities.

  • The right candidate will have a good standard of IT literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and specialised Revenues and Benefits software.
  • The ability to be a bigger picture thinker and work collaboratively across Council services and Directorates to deliver our Council Plan priorities.
  • The post is based at Kendal, though there will be a need to move throughout office buildings and attend external meetings or training events. There will be some flexibility to work from home, subject to agreement.

The right candidate will support the Revenues Management Team in promoting and delivering a legislatively compliant, effective and high-quality customer-centric Revenues Service, through the development and delivery of a range of functions and initiatives, including council tax, business rates, business improvement district levy and debt recovery. The successful candidate will lead a multifunctional Revenues Team with responsibility for the operational and performance management, providing clear guidance and direction which promotes and develops a culture of continuous improvement, compliance and efficiency.
