Job summary

VillageMD is seeking a Revenue Cycle Specialist to research and resolve payment discrepancies, focusing on Athenahealth worklists and account analysis. You will collaborate with internal teams and payers to ensure accurate patient accounts and compliant processes.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• 1+ year of experience in healthcare revenue cycle, medical billing, payment posting, reconciliation, refunds, banking, accounting, or related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret payment activity, identify discrepancies, and determine appropriate resolution.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Outlook.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize workload, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
• Commitment to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Research and resolve payment discrepancies and account variances to ensure accurate balances.
• Work Athenahealth worklists and determine resolutions based on payment activity.
• Investigate unapplied, misapplied, unidentified, and unallocated payments and take corrective action.
• Review and process patient and insurance refunds per policies and regulations.
• Verify deposits and reconcile payment activity using bank and payer portals.
• Retrieve remittance information and supporting documentation for research.
• Utilize Athenahealth as primary workflow; leverage Tableau and LK Oasis for analysis.
• Monitor departmental communications and respond within SLAs.
• Identify recurring issues and suggest improvements to leadership.
• Collaborate with Revenue Cycle departments, vendors, payers, and stakeholders.
• Support audits, special projects, and process improvements.
• Maintain productivity, quality, and accuracy standards.
• Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
