Job summary

Cape Fear Retina Associates, PC is seeking an experienced Revenue Cycle Manager to lead the revenue cycle for a fast-paced retina practice. You will oversee billing, coding, collections, payer relations, and compliance to improve financial performance.

The ideal candidate has ophthalmology/retina experience, strong knowledge of payer rules, and a data-driven approach. You will supervise staff, optimize workflows, and prepare monthly reports to guide budgeting and strategic planning.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing revenue cycle in healthcare.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of medical billing, coding, and reimbursement methodologies.
  • Experience with EHR/PM systems (ModMed, NextGen, Epic or similar).
  • Ophthalmology/retina exposure is preferred.
  • Certifications CPC/CPB/CRCR/OCS/OCSR are a plus.

  • Monitor KPIs such as days in A/R, denial rates, collection rates, and net revenue performance.
  • Lead denial management strategy and corrective action plans.
  • Coordinate with front office to improve eligibility, authorizations, and collections.
  • Prepare monthly financial and operational reports; support budgeting and strategic planning.
  • Train and supervise billing, coding, and A/R staff.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Revenue Cycle Manager to lead and optimize all aspects of the revenue cycle for a fast-paced retina practice. This role is responsible for ensuring financial performance through effective management of billing, coding, collections, payer relations, and compliance.

The ideal candidate brings strong ophthalmology/retina experience, a deep understanding of payer rules, and a proactive, data-driven approach to revenue cycle performance.

Key Responsibilities
Revenue Cycle Oversight
  • Manage end-to-end revenue cycle operations including charge capture, coding, claim submission, payment posting, and accounts receivable follow-up
  • Monitor KPIs such as days in A/R, denial rates, collection rates, and net revenue performance
  • Implement workflows to improve cash flow and reduce revenue leakage
  • Ensure accurate coding for retina and ophthalmology services (including surgical and in-office procedures)
  • Maintain compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer regulations
  • Oversee and perform internal audits and coordinate external audits as needed
Denial Management & Collections
  • Lead denial management strategy, including root cause analysis and corrective action plans
  • Optimize processes for timely follow-up on outstanding claims and patient balances
  • Collaborate with front office to improve eligibility, authorizations, and point-of-service collections
  • Supervise billing, coding, and A/R staff
  • Provide training, performance management, and ongoing development
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
Reporting & Analytics
  • Prepare and present monthly financial and operational reports
  • Analyze trends and identify opportunities for revenue growth and process improvement
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning
Qualifications
Required:
  • Revenue cycle management experience in healthcare
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of medical billing, coding, and reimbursement methodologies
  • Experience with EHR/PM systems (e.g., ModMed, NextGen, Epic, or similar)
Preferred:
  • Experience in ophthalmology or retina specialty practice
  • Certification such as CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CPB, or CRCR and/or OCS/OCSR
  • Familiarity with retina-specific procedures (e.g., injections, OCT, laser, vitrectomy billing)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with high level of accuracy
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
