Job summary

Hi-Way Auto Inc. Brownwood, TX is seeking a Return Associate to manage customer returns, inspect items for defects, and ensure accurate restocking in our parts warehouse.

You will collaborate with warranty, quality control, and customer service teams to document root causes, generate credits, and improve inventory processes. This role emphasizes attention to detail, reliable communication, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• One (1) year minimum customer service, retail, warehouse, or related experience preferred.
• One (1) year minimum automotive experience preferred. Forklift certification preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required with a commitment to act with an elevated level of professionalism during all transactions both internally and externally.
• Must demonstrate sound judgement to make decisions within predetermined parameters and guidelines set by the company.
• Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, primarily Excel and Word, All-data, Mitchel and Outlook with the aptitude to learn new systems and software.
• Must be able to work effectively alone or with others in a team environment.
• Must be able to work collaboratively across functions.
• Must be a self-starter with the demonstrated ability to meet timelines and schedules related to essential functions described above.
• Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Customer Service – Internal & External: Interacting with customers to provide information and guide them through the returns process.
• Keep customers up to date on the status of their returns or attain additional information on the return.
• Establish timely communication, provide the necessary documentation, and self-monitor performance to ensure compliance with service level agreements.
• Utilize vendor guides to meet each customer’s needs.
• Drive Returns Processing: Carefully inspect returned parts for defects or damage and determine restocking eligibility.
• Ensure items meet return terms and determine appropriate actions.
• Restock parts in correct warehouse location using inventory tools.
• Send unsuitable parts to scrap or to be cored as needed.
• Refer returns for warranty claims to the warranty team.
• Receive RMAs and issue credits to customers for returned parts.
• Collaborate with warranty, quality control, and customer service to address return reasons.
• Assist in evaluating and tracking returns by documenting root causes and logging data for KPIs.
• Help management identify areas for process improvement.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area for returns storage.
• Administrative: Maintain accurate returns and inventory records and supporting documents.
• Support tracking and analyzing returns data.
• Assist in analyzing trends to identify improvements for product quality and recurring issues.
• Support the sales team to initiate, process, and close RMAs efficiently.
• Follow compliance guidelines related to returned products.
• Perform Other Duties as Assigned: May assist with shipping/receiving and inventory management.
