Objective of the position: Retread Maintenance Technicians help drive the continued success of our Retread Centers by working safely and efficiently. They are responsible for all functions pertaining to retread maintenance, including but not limited to power washing, preventive equipment maintenance, equipment repairs, and maintaining part inventory. The position focuses on ensuring all equipment and the facility are maintained and running smoothly to meet the demands of the commercial retread customer. Technicians will perform various daily duties as assigned by the Retread Plant Manager to ensure proper warehouse cleanliness and maintenance standards are upheld. Success in this role is measured by the technician's ability to learn new skills, provide excellent customer service, and promote teamwork within the organization.

Essential functions:

  • Maintain a safe and clean facility and use safety-first practices to remain accident-free.
  • Use all safety-related PPE such as gloves, safety glasses and vest, and harnesses or seatbelts while driving equipment.
  • Inspect new equipment prior to use on site.
  • Responsible for inspecting and verifying daily safety checks of equipment.
  • Dismantle and repair or replace faulty components.
  • Reassemble and test components to ensure they are working safely.
  • Undertake routine inspections of gearboxes, hydraulics, electrical systems, and frames.
  • Diagnose causes of malfunctioning of machines, motors, pumps, transformers, and related mechanical, electro/mechanical components.
  • Keep accurate records of work completed on machinery utilizing the company Shop Connect system.
  • Complete daily, monthly, and yearly inspections and accurately record inspection data.
  • Use a wide range of specialist hand and power tools, including sockets, spanners, screwdrivers, drills, lifting gear, and welding/cutting equipment. Assist with periodic inventory counts.
  • Perform routine facilities maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain personal grooming and uniform standards.
  • Maintain company attendance standards. Other tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Prior experience working in a distribution center/warehouse environment.
  • 1+ years of industrial maintenance experience preferred.

Skills and physical demands:

  • Hard Skills: Ability to learn and operate all facility equipment including computers, forklifts, floor scrubbers, and retreading machinery.
  • Soft Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills, perform basic arithmetic functions: add, subtract, multiply, and divide, time management skills, organization skills, can-do attitude, sense of urgency, and strong work ethic.
  • Typical Physical Demands: Requires normal range of hearing and vision. Very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and working from elevated surfaces. Frequently lift and/or move over 75 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working within a fast-paced distribution center and tire retread plant environment where there may be wide temperature variations depending on weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to dirt, dust, rubber smells, debris, cleaning solutions, as well as powered material handling equipment and commercial truck traffic.
