Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad, located in Romney, WV, is currently accepting applications for retired, seasonal, and part-time railway conductors and locomotive engineers located within a 50-mile radius of Romney to join our team.
This role is ideal for someone looking to leverage their years of experience in rail transportation while enjoying the flexibility of working on a part-time scenic train. Additional trainmen who are knowledgeable and experienced in handling rail equipment will help increase our roster of fellow retired conductors and engineers who are not ready for the rocking chair and still have the enjoyment, skill, and experience needed to handle equipment from the golden years of railroading while serving in this modern era.
Railway locomotives are EMD first-generation models. Passenger equipment consists of older steel and lightweight cars.
All trains operate from Romney, WV. When reporting for work, conductors will be required to prepare their train for the day’s trip, which may include, but is not limited to, switching cars in and out of the train.
Newly hired conductors and/or engineers will take part in several weeks of training, which includes some classroom instruction but primarily consists of field training with a crew to enhance understanding and awareness of train operations. The training guides the new conductor and/or engineer through the critical safety skills required when working around passenger equipment. Training is completed upon successful observation by Potomac Eagle’s Operations, Safety, and Regulatory Compliance Manager.
