Assistant Mechanical and Maintenance Supervisor

Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad, located in Romney, WV, is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Mechanical & Facilities Supervisor responsible for overseeing and delegating the mechanical, electrical, and facility needs of the railroad. This position includes the following responsibilities, though additional duties may be required.

Primary Duties.

Maintenance and repair of all electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, grounds, facilities, diesel locomotives, passenger cars, generators, and related equipment.

Ordering supplies, including fuel, parts, and other consumables.

Handling necessary federal, state, county, and corporate paperwork and requirements.

Leading and supervising personnel in related departments while supporting year-round operations, maintenance, and repair needs.

Responsibilities, Requirements, and Skills:

Interaction with Potomac Eagle’s customers requires a positive attitude and professional demeanor.

Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English.

Possess strong leadership and project management skills.

Ability to simultaneously manage a variety of projects while staying within budgetary and time constraints.

Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, vendors, and subcontractors.

Proficient in basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, email, and internet use.

Attention to detail and safety is required.

Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.

Dedicated to getting the job done while meeting standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Prevent breakdowns of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing components.

Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or replace damaged units.

Test and troubleshoot completed installations.

Ability to hold railway conductor and locomotive engineer certification and fulfill needed vacancies on occasion.

Follow company safety procedures, use common sense, and maintain a strong level of safety awareness while operating in the work environment.

Make effective decisions in unfamiliar or emergency situations.

Provide daily staff supervision, support, and leadership.

Perform additional tasks as required.

Working Conditions:

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.

High degree of manual dexterity with good hand-eye coordination.

Ability to walk on uneven surfaces.

Periodic bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling.

Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally, and up to 100 pounds infrequently.

Maintain predictable and reliable attendance.

Other Optional Knowledge and Experience:

HVAC and refrigeration.

Electrical knowledge.

Welding.

Heavy equipment mechanic experience, especially with railway equipment.
