Railcar & Facility Maintenance Technician

Job description

Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad, located in Romney, WV, is currently accepting applications for a Facilities & Equipment Maintenance Technician/Handyman to support the upkeep and day-to-day functionality of our property, buildings, and equipment. This role plays an important part in keeping our assets maintained and operating safely, efficiently, and effectively. This position will assist with general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for employees and guests.

Duties

• Perform routine inspections and maintenance on building systems, including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing components.
• Work on passenger cars and other railroad-related equipment as needed.
• Conduct repairs using welding techniques and mechanical knowledge to address equipment malfunctions or damage.
• Perform various operational and grounds-related projects.
• Demonstrate willingness and physical ability to perform labor-intensive tasks.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities.
• Work in and around rail cars and guest depot areas.
• Maintain on-call availability as needed and adjust to seasonal scheduling needs.

Experience

• Basic understanding of facility maintenance practices or related hands‑on skills.
• Comfortable using standard maintenance tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues and assist in resolving maintenance problems efficiently.
• Previous experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC systems is a plus.
