Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operative communications with patients by phone.
• Mail information about procedures, fees and financing options.
• Assist patients with Care Credit applications and schedule procedures.
• Review and explain surgical instructions and forms to patients.
• Educate patients on procedures and complete pre/post-surgery documentation.
• Ensure payments are collected and provide ASC/hospital paperwork as needed.
• Scan and file pre- and post-surgical paperwork into the database.
• Prepare patient surgical charts with proper documentation.

A Patient Care Counselor ensures patients at our Surgery locations fully understand every aspect of their surgical procedure(s). In this position, the individual must be very knowledgeable about each phase of the patient’s surgery and be able to identify and educate all patients on their options for treatments and procedures for macular degeneration, Clear Lens Exchange, presbyopic correcting and astigmatic correcting implant lenses to name a few. The employee is responsible for executing consultations, scheduling patients and performing preliminary testing to assist in counseling patients of their lens options.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform required communication (per Points of Contact) via phone with all patients regarding both pre-op and post-op
• Compile and mail information to patients regarding surgical procedures, along with fees and financing options available to them
• Assist patients with application to Care Credit, as needed
• Review surgery instructions and forms with patients
• Educate patients on surgical procedure(s) and complete pre- and post-surgery documentation
• Ensure payments are collected from patients, as applicable
• Provide ASC/hospital with all required/requested paperwork
• Scan necessary pre- and post-surgical paperwork into database
• Prepare patient’s surgical charts with appropriate paperwork

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• High school graduate, or equivalent
• Previous experience in ambulatory surgery preferred
• Knowledge in medical terminology preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT (per ADA guidelines):
