Pay Range: Minimum $77,250.00. Position is eligible for a monthly bonus based on performance goals, upon successful completion of training.
Position Description
The Retail Store Manager in Training (MIT) will complete a comprehensive training program at one of our training locations. The program prepares the MIT for the Store Manager role by providing hands‑on experience in all aspects of our retail operations, rotating through key positions, learning company policies, operational procedures, and management techniques. Upon successful completion, the MIT transitions into a full‑time Store Manager, assuming full responsibility for their own Retail Store location.
As a Store Manager, you will drive retail business operations at a Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay location, helping fund the Goodwill mission of ending unemployment. You will be responsible for entire store production, directly leading Assistant Store Manager(s), the Production Team, and Donation Attendants. Core responsibilities include people leadership, store operations, financial management, inventory control, donation processing, customer service, and training & development of team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a retail operations plan to achieve daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals for operating income, revenue, and production.
- Coordinate with the Retail District Manager to develop and implement strategic plans to drive donations.
- Monitor product levels—floor work, as‑is, recycle, trash, seasonal back stock—to meet sales budget targets.
- Ensure payroll costs and operating costs stay within budget.
- Guarantee excellent customer and donor service from all team members.
- Maintain store cleanliness and brand appearance.
- Partner with community businesses and organizations to promote Goodwill’s mission.
- Serve as a Goodwill ambassador in the community.
- Transfer between stores as business needs require and cover shifts at multiple locations.
- Train and develop Team Members to ensure they fulfill duties and responsibilities.
- Ensure Donation Attendants provide excellent service and properly sort and prepare donations.
- Ensure the Production Team prices and displays products to meet store goals.
- Collaborate with support areas—Asset Protection, Human Resources, Safety, Finance, Learning & Development—to reinforce business goals and policy compliance.
- Build a high‑performing team and oversee performance management, coaching, discipline, performance improvement plans, and annual reviews.

- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in Retail Management, preferably in a thrift environment.
- One year of customer service experience.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable.
- Proficiency in reading and speaking English.
