Job summary

Goodwill Industries International, Inc. is seeking a Retail Store Manager in Training (MIT) to receive comprehensive training at one of our locations. This position leads to a full-time role with complete responsibility for store operations, managing teams, and driving sales performance to meet targets.

Position Description

The Retail Store Manager in Training (MIT) receives comprehensive training at one of our training locations. Upon completion he or she transitions to a full‑time Store Manager role with full responsibility for a retail store. Duties involve managing day‑to‑day operations, leading a team, and driving retail performance to meet revenue and production goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a retail operations plan to achieve daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals for operating income, revenue, and production.
  • Coordinate with the Retail District Manager to develop, implement, and assess strategic plans that support donation intake and store performance.
  • Monitor product levels (floor work, as‑is, recycle, trash, seasonal back stock) daily to meet sales budget targets.
  • Manage payroll and operating costs to stay within budget.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service and store cleanliness that reflects the Goodwill brand.
  • Partner with community businesses and organizations to promote the Goodwill mission.
  • Maintain consistent in‑person attendance and serve as a Goodwill ambassador.
  • Transfer to or cover shifts at different stores as business needs require.
  • Train and develop Team Members, including Donation Attendants and Production Team, to meet company standards.
  • Assist the Assistant Store Manager in performance management, staffing, and compensation plan implementation.
  • Support business‑wide initiatives and compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of retail management experience, preferably in thrift.
  • One year of customer service experience.
  • Understanding of financial metrics, reporting, and budget management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to pass a background check, as applicable.
  • English speaking and reading proficiency.
