Job Summary

PetSmart’s Store Leader oversees safety, pet parent experience, operations, financial outcomes, and HR functions within the store. This role drives company culture, achieves results, champions pet parent service, and upholds our vision, mission, and values.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

People Leadership
  • Recruitment, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and termination decisions.
  • Foster an open-door culture, listen to associates, and respond to feedback.
  • Create and manage store schedules.
  • Support associate development through reviews, recognition, training, and mentoring.
  • Delegate tasks, empower team members, and encourage ownership.
  • Communicate and adjust team priorities to meet goals.
  • Address and resolve associate complaints and grievances.
  • Recognize and celebrate team engagement.
  • Ensure timely delivery of associate reviews.
Overall Store Experience
  • Lead the associate and pet parent experience, ensuring safety and satisfaction.
  • Respond to pet parent concerns and improve store processes.
  • Collaborate on in-store and community events.
  • Maintain store standards, policies, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular safety and compliance walks.
  • Manage safety, health, and inventory standards.
  • Handle incidents involving pets or safety issues promptly.
Business Management
  • Implement corporate strategies and meet profitability targets.
  • Analyze reports, respond to data, and improve store performance.
  • Drive business growth and achieve sales and shrink targets.
  • Manage expenses and store budgets.
  • Create schedules, process payroll, and handle store errands.
Qualifications
  • 4-6 years of retail leadership or customer-focused experience.
  • Full-time availability, flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure.
Supervisory Responsibility

Oversee Experience Leader, Process Leader, up to six lead associates, and 10-70 non-leader associates, following company policies.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Stand, walk, climb, handle objects, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in environments with pet hair, noise, and live animals. Accommodations available for disabilities.
