Job summary

Dollar General is hiring a Store Manager to lead all store operations and staff. You will oversee ordering, receiving, stocking, merchandising, and customer service to meet sales targets while upholding company policies.

You will recruit, train and evaluate employees, manage scheduling, and ensure security and cash controls. The role requires a high school diploma and retail management experience in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Reading and interpreting documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Perform mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control.
• Ability to operate IBM cash register to generate reports.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
• Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling and termination practices with legal compliance.
• Knowledge of cash, facility and safety control policies (deposits, store keys, SAFE program).
• Good organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to solve problems in varied situations with limited standardization.
• In some locations, preference for bilingual Spanish speakers.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, select and retain qualified employees according to laws and policies; ensure store is properly staffed.
• Provide training, evaluations, and counseling; address gaps and termination if needed.
• Make recommendations on pay rates and advancement.
• Communicate performance and safety expectations; coordinate meetings.
• Ensure the store opens and closes as required.
• Personally open and close the store multiple times per week.
• Analyze operating statements for trends, expenses, shrink, and errors.
• Manage ordering to meet in-stock targets; review weekly plans and cycle counts.
• Support staging, stocking, and storage of merchandise according to processes.
• Ensure merchandise presentation, pricing and signage meet standards.
• Maintain inventory levels by controlling damages and paperwork.
• Maintain cash accountability and security practices; protect financial assets.
• Provide strong customer service leadership and a safe store environment.
• Keep store clean, organized, and properly equipped for tasks.
• Follow SOPs and policies; complete paperwork on deadlines.
