Spartanburg County Public Libraries at Pages on Pine is seeking a part-time Retail Store Assistant. The role involves shelving, donation sorting, cashiering, and helping customers, with some programming support and volunteer coordination.

Hours are 25 per week, primarily weekdays, with one special Saturday per month, and some flexibility required. Education preferred is a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; independence and strong customer relations are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions as directed by Retail Store Manager.
• Retail experience is a plus.
• Enjoy reading across genres and have strong customer relations abilities.
• SCPLuses multi-factor authentication for network and program access; may use personal device for MFA.
• Driver’s license valid in South Carolina with ability to travel to other libraries.

Responsibilities

• Shelves books by proper placement.
• Assists with book donations and customers as needed.
• Runs cash register and handles financial transactions.
• Organizes and maintains shelves and donations.
• Maintains neat and clean store areas.
• Assists with programming and troubleshoots customer issues.
• Fills in for absent volunteers and recruits volunteers.
• Acts as staff liaison with Friends of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries.
• Monitors safety and security issues and takes appropriate action.

JOB TITLE: Retail Store Assistant, Grade 19

LOCATION: Pages on Pine, a branch of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries

DATE AVAILABLE: October 1, 2026

SALARY: $1,588 per month (Includes some benefits)

HOURS: 25 hours per week

Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Last Saturday of each month from 11:00 a.m.–4:00p.m.

Some flexibility in these hours is required basedcoverage needs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Shelvesbooks by learning the proper placement of materials.
• Assistswith book donations; assists customers as needed.
• Runscash register and must be comfortable with financial transactions.
• Organizesand maintains bookshelves; organizes donations before placement on shelves.
• Keepsall areas of the stores neat and clean
• Assistswith programming at the stores as needed; troubleshoots customer issues as theyarise.
• Fillin for absent volunteers.
• Assistswith recruiting volunteers for the stores and serves as staff liaison withFriends of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries.
• Remainsaware of safety and security issues and takes appropriate action as needed.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• Bachelor’sDegree or equivalent experience preferred.
