Join our team as a Shortage Control Associate and contribute to a secure shopping environment while delivering exceptional customer service. As an SCA, you will be responsible for mitigating theft, creating a safe atmosphere, and delivering a confident, friendly, and energetic greeting to every customer. Your vigilance, communication skills, and support of store shortage reduction programs will directly impact the overall shopping experience.
Responsibilities
- Stand positioned at the front of the store, remaining vigilant and aware of your surroundings.
- Greet every customer entering or exiting the store with a warm smile and loud, friendly greeting.
- Create a secure environment and reduce opportunities for theft.
- Maintain a professional appearance and follow the designated dress standards.
- Monitor entrances and high‑risk areas for all shifts, reducing opportunities for shoplifting and dishonest activities.
- Identify and report theft incidents or suspicious individuals to the Manager on Duty.
- Conduct bag and package checks on store and corporate associates, ensuring adherence to safety and security standards.
- Engage in store rallies to communicate theft prevention information and collaborate with the Manager on Duty.
- Support training of associates on shortage reduction programs and processes.
- Role-model safety as a top priority and address unsafe practices promptly.
- Review, analyze, and comprehend business trends related to store operations.
- Maintain confidentiality of store processes and incident reports.
Experience and Qualifications
- 1+ year of experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, asset protection, loss prevention, or operations (preferred).
- Ability to stand, walk, and visually monitor store environment for extended periods.
- Strong communication skills with customers and co‑workers.
- Ability to exhibit a positive demeanor, strong posture, and energetic greeting.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment with disciplined decision making.
- Leadership skills that support fostering productive business relationships.

Compensation and Benefits
Base Pay: $16 per hour. Part‑time associates may be eligible for Burlington’s benefits package—including medical coverage and a 401(k) plan—based on hours worked. Part‑time associates may also receive up to 4 hours of paid time off annually after one year of service, up to 8 paid holidays, and paid sick time in accordance with applicable law. Competitive wage, flexible hours, and an associate discount are also included.
