Job Summary
PetSmart’s Process Lead (Retail Operations Supervisor) has shared responsibility to drive operational excellence in our stores while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role is responsible for merchandising and inventory management, pet care operations, opening and/or closing the store, overseeing associates, and maintaining a safe and organized environment.
Principal Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following and may vary depending on store characteristics and needs:
People Leadership:
- Support and guide sales associates in merchandise handling, providing training on product knowledge and presentation standards.
- Facilitate the associate experience and support associate development through training, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Delegate and validate completion of daily tasks.
- Lead and direct associates when acting as the leader on duty.
- Address and manage associate complaints and grievances.
- Recognize and celebrate associates to drive engagement.
Store Operations and Overall Store Experience:
- Implement merchandise strategies to optimize sales, including receiving products, product placement, seasonal displays, and promotions.
- Manage inventory levels, conduct audits, analyze sales trends, and make recommendations for stock replenishment and markdowns.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and address discrepancies.
- Operate POS systems and handle cash transactions accurately and in compliance with policies.
- Ensure store standards and foster a culture of empowerment by adhering to Policies and Procedures and the Code of Ethics.
- Participate in store opening and closing procedures to uphold brand standards.
- Perform monthly inventory counts and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain pet care standards, including cleaning, feeding, providing water, and caring for new or sick pets.
- Ensure a positive experience for pet parents, including online order pickups and ship-from-store services.
- Support pet safety and health, taking immediate action when a sick or injured pet is identified.
- Follow company policies for pet arrivals, ensuring health and quarantine procedures are followed.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of retail supervisory experience in a customer-focused environment.
- Full-time availability with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to react calmly under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in store presentation.
Supervisory Responsibility
- No direct reports, but expected to guide and support other associates’ development.
- Provide feedback on associate performance to the supervisor.
- Act as the store leader in the absence of other leaders, supervising staff and managing tasks.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle objects frequently; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear. Vision abilities include depth perception.
- Lift up to 50 pounds frequently; team lift over 100 pounds occasionally.
- Work may involve exposure to moving machinery, pet hair, and moderate noise; handling live animals is common.
