Job summary

SpartanNash, operating the Family Fare banner in Traverse City, seeks a department supervisor to lead day-to-day store operations. You will train associates, staff the department, and ensure adherence to company standards and KPIs.

The role requires at least a high school diploma, 1–2 years of retail experience with supervisory exposure, and strong leadership, organization, and communication skills. Proficiency in Word/Excel/PowerPoint is preferred, with Spanish a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate (Required) or Equivalent (GED).
• Two years of retail experience preferred.
• One-year supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication, and bookkeeping skills.
• Good organization, prioritization, decision‑making, problem solving and conflict management skills.
• Strong leadership abilities with capability to work in a hands‑on environment.
• Good strategic planning and business acumen skills.
• Good knowledge of retail store operations; knowledge of retail management systems.
• Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Depending on company location, ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day activities of the department operations in a retail store.
• Order and maintain inventory in the department with freshness and quality controls.
• Review and validate received orders for amount, quality, count or weight.
• Manage a team handling stocking, production, and tasks to ensure quality and rotation.
• Maintain familiarity with products in the department and throughout the store.
• Know advertised items, prices, coupons, and store rewards programs.
• Communicate and execute Flight Plans to company standards.
• Use scheduling tools to manage staffing and payroll expenses.
• Implement and maintain department schedules and labor controls.
• Develop and monitor department goals and forecasts.
• Participate in daily huddles and meetings; travel as required.
• Maintain a clean, stocked department following Prime Time standards.
• Ensure food safety and safety guidelines are followed; take corrective action when needed.
• Develop plans to meet company goals and KPIs.
