Job summary

Sanilac Creamery in Ann Arbor, MI, seeks a friendly Retail Cheese Monger to guide guests through our rotating cheese selection, prepare samples, and maintain a welcoming shop. This part-time role blends hospitality, cheese knowledge, and merchandising, ideal for someone who loves people and flavor.

You’ll engage guests, cut and wrap cheese, prepare plates and gelato cups, and keep displays inviting while upholding safety standards. Training provided where needed.

Qualifications

• Enthusiasm for cheese, food, and great service.
• Experience as a cheesemonger, barista, or deli associate is a plus — but we’ll train the right person.
• Comfortable engaging with guests in a busy retail setting.
• Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• ServSafe or equivalent food handler certification (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Provide warm, attentive service to every guest — answer questions, offer samples, and help customers discover cheeses they’ll love
• Cut, wrap, and label cheese accurately, following food safety and presentation standards
• Prepare and serve simple cheese plates, spreads, and gelato cups for in-store guests
• Keep displays stocked and visually appealing; rotate products and maintain proper temperatures
• Operate the POS system, handle cash and credit transactions, and support loyalty program signups
• Assist with special events such as tastings, tailgates, and cheese guild meet-ups
• Follow food safety procedures (HACCP/SSOP), maintain sanitation practices, and complete cleaning logs
• Learn about our products — from milk sources to affinage — and share that story with guests

Compensation:$14.50–$18/hour
($12.75 base pay + pooled tips)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Retail Cheese Monger is the welcoming face of Sanilac Creamery’s retail shop.
