Job summary

Hotel Nikko San Francisco is seeking a professional, high-energy bartender to craft classic cocktails and new beverages for our guests at the Union Square area. You will greet customers, learn preferences, suggest menu items, and upsell drinks while maintaining quality and cost controls.

Applicants should have at least 1 year of bartending experience, be fluent in English, and possess excellent beverage knowledge.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of previous bartending experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests and promote house drinks, using up-selling to maximize revenues.
• Prepare beverages per recipes and coordinate with food service as needed.
• Monitor guests' alcohol consumption and manage service accordingly.
• Provide professional, friendly and engaging service at all times.
• Know the beverage lists, garnishes, contents and preparation methods.
• Set up bar with supplies and perform pre- and post-shift side-work.

Qualifications

We are looking for a professional, high-energy bartender with excellent communication skills to serve classical cocktails and exciting new beverages to our customers. You will greet customers, learn about their preferences, answer questions, recommend menu items, prepare and serve beverages and food. You will also upsell items, create recipes, utilize proper equipment and ingredients, and handle basic cleaning duties.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Greet guests pleasantly as they approach the bar; promote house drinks and utilize up-selling skills to maximize revenues.
• Prepare beverages requested by customers. Adhere to established pouring standards and drink recipes to provide a consistent product to the guests and to control costs. Coordinate food service with restaurant(s) for bar/lounge guests if applicable.
• Monitor guest behavior and guest alcohol consumption to determine when alcohol service to the guest should cease; notify management of incidents involving excessive alcohol consumption or impaired condition of customers.
• Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service.
• Assist guests regarding all beverage menu items in an informative and helpful way.
• Have full knowledge of beverage lists and promotions.
• Have full knowledge of all menu items, garnishes, contents and preparation methods.
• Follow outlet policies, procedures and service standards.
• Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage.
• Assist with beverage inventory when needed.
• Set up bar including all liquor, mixers, ice, garnishes, glassware and supplies. Perform pre- and post-shift side-work (empty/fill ice-bins, prepare garnishments, replenish/store snacks, etc.). Requisition all necessary supplies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• At least 1 year of previous bartending experience
• Must meet state legal age requirements.
• All candidates must be fluent in verbal and written English
• Excellent knowledge of all beverage products
• Previous point of sale system experience preferred
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
• Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team
• Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

Work Conditions

• Most tasks are performed as part of a team with a moderate amount of supervision.
• Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems.
• Work tasks are performed walking, standing, lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, and grasping.
• Standing and walking occurs 90-95% of the time. Walking occurs continuously in and between kitchen and banquet or meeting room areas.
• Many work tasks require the ability to lift and carry in excess of 30 pounds 100% of the time.
• Talking and hearing occurs continuously in the process of communicating with guests, co-workers, and supervisors.
• Some work tasks are performed on carpeted areas, while others are performed on tiled or other hard surfaces.
• Some work tasks require employees to come in contact with hazardous chemicals. Employee should use precautions including but not limited to rubber gloves.
