Job summary

Hotel Nikko San Francisco is seeking an Assistant Director of Finance to oversee day-to-day accounting operations at our luxury downtown hotel. You will manage AP, AR, payroll, income auditing and cashiering while ensuring accuracy and guest satisfaction.

You will collaborate with the CFO to prepare the annual operating budget, monitor revenues and expenses, drive KPI reporting, and lead the accounting staff to maintain strong controls and timely month-end closes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting is required.
  • Minimum 5 years in hotel accounting with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong technical skills with advanced MS Excel and accounting software.
  • Thorough knowledge of budgeting and GAAP.
  • Thorough knowledge of hotel innkeeping laws.
  • Ability to direct and coordinate accounting functions.
  • Ability to train, motivate, evaluate, and mentor staff and managers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage staff and guests.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Collaborate with department heads on budgets and forecasts.
  • Complete Month End process and prepare journal entries.
  • Respond to guest and staff inquiries in a courteous, professional manner.

Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing, directing and administering the day to day accounting operations of the hotel in the hotels continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily function of the accounting office including AP, AR, Payroll, Income Auditing and General Cashiering while ensuring that the office functions take place efficiently and with proper accuracy.
  • Monitor hotel revenues and expenses and ensure the accurate recording in accordance with HNSF established guidelines. Investigate and critique variance to budget or to prior year and offer practical improvement methodologies to management
  • Assist the CFO in preparing and maintaining the annual operation budget.
  • Assist the CFO in the developing and monitoring of departmental Key Performance Indicators, (KPI’s), oversees monthly KPI Meetings.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to the accounting staff.
  • Maintain property accounting controls such as cash, petty cash, purchase orders and ensure compliance with accounting policies.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Work with department heads on understanding their departmental budget and staying inside their budget as well as considering the forecast.
  • Complete the "Month End" process including preparing journal entries for Income, Payroll, Amortizing prepaid items, booking accruals and other items.
  • Respond to and resolve guest and staff difficulties in a courteous, professional and prompt manner.
  • Interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions, particularly interactions with supervisors, subordinates, co-workers and guests in completing assignments, resolving staff and guest complaints.
  • Interpret and comply with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form.
  • Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Responsible for maintaining safety and cleanliness of work area.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Previous hotel experience with a minimum of 5 years in accounting experience with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial role.
  • Must possess strong technical skills and have advanced proficiency in MS Excel and other accounting software.
  • Thorough knowledge of budgeting and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Thorough knowledge of hotel innkeeping laws.
  • Ability to direct and coordinate accounting functions.
  • Ability to train, motivate, evaluate, mentor and direct employees and managers to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to maintain excellent relations with staff.
  • Ability to manage by example.
  • Exceptional oral communication skills to ensure ability to negotiate and persuade guest and staff to achieve results beneficial to the operation of the hotel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to converse calmly with irate guests, superiors and subordinates in sometimes intense emotional situations.
  • Ability to work and complete assignments on time despite frequent stressful, emergency, critical or unusual interruptions.
  • Ability to participate in (and lead when necessary) all departmental and hotel-wide meetings.
