Job summary

Potbelly Sandwich Works in Park Ridge, IL seeks a General Manager to lead shop operations with a strong emphasis on team development and culture. You will coach staff, manage scheduling, and drive sales while maintaining food safety and labor targets.

The role requires 45+ hours weekly, 8–9 hour shifts, and lift capability up to 50 pounds. You will oversee P&L, execute local marketing, and ensure high standards of service in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years as General Manager with P&L responsibility preferred.
• Must pass and obtain a Food Safety Certification.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, energetic environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and multitasking abilities.
• Open availability and ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills and labor management.
• Experience with scheduling and labor goals.
• Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong business acumen and ability to interpret financial reports.
• Able to stand 8-9 hours and work 45+ hours weekly.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Illinois applicants must become food safety certified within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Train, coach, and develop all shop team members to realize their potential.
• Assess staff abilities; create and implement development plans.
• Interview, select and hire great people who represent Potbelly values.
• Develop and maintain a Good Vibes culture for attraction and retention.
• Effectively schedule Associates, Certified Trainers and Shift Leaders.
• Update communication board with critical shop information.
• Hold regular meetings with key shop staff.
• Delegate tasks to team to ensure high standard of execution.
• Ensure all security procedures are followed.
• Ensure back-of-house standards are met.
