Bartender

The Tavern Restaurant

Position Summary

The Tavern is seeking an experienced, professional bartender who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment. This position requires strong bartending experience, excellent guest service skills, and the ability to maintain speed, accuracy, and consistency during busy service.

Our bartenders are responsible for creating a welcoming bar experience while also supporting the dining room with accurate and timely service-bar drinks. The ideal candidate is confident behind the bar, knowledgeable about cocktails, beer and wine, and understands the importance of teamwork, organization, and hospitality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain consistent recipes, proper pours, garnishes, glassware, and presentation standards.
  • Manage a high-volume bar while maintaining friendly, attentive, and professional guest service.
  • Handle both bar guests and service-bar tickets efficiently during peak periods.
  • Greet and acknowledge guests promptly and maintain an engaging, welcoming presence behind the bar.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the beverage menu, including cocktails, spirits, beer, wine, and featured selections.
  • Accurately enter orders into the POS system and properly manage guest tabs and payments.
  • Ring in beverages promptly and ensure all transactions are properly accounted for.
  • Monitor guest alcohol consumption and follow all responsible alcohol service policies.
  • Communicate effectively with servers, managers, fellow bartenders, barbacks, and the culinary team.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar throughout the shift.
  • Complete opening, closing, stocking, cleaning, and assigned side work.
  • Properly rotate, date, and store bar products and supplies.
  • Assist with inventory control by minimizing waste, following proper portioning standards, and communicating product shortages.
  • Support fellow team members during busy periods and contribute to an efficient, team-oriented environment.
  • Follow all restaurant policies, sanitation standards, and alcohol service regulations.
Expectations

Bartenders are expected to:

  • Work quickly and efficiently without sacrificing quality or guest service.
  • Remain composed, organized, and professional during high-volume service.
  • Consistently follow Tavern recipes, portioning, and presentation standards.
  • Maintain control and awareness of the entire bar, even during peak periods.
  • Anticipate guest needs and provide attentive service without guests having to repeatedly ask for assistance.
  • Maintain an organized workstation and continuously restock and reset throughout the shift.
  • Work collaboratively with other bartenders and barbacks rather than operating independently of the team.
  • Be dependable, punctual, and prepared for every scheduled shift.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Understand that weekends, holidays, special events, and other high-volume periods are an important part of the position.
Qualifications
  • Prior high-volume bartending experience is required.
  • Previous bartending experience in a busy full-service restaurant or comparable high-volume environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, spirits, beer, and wine.
  • Ability to prepare multiple drink orders efficiently while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Experience using restaurant POS systems and handling cash and credit transactions.
  • Knowledge of responsible alcohol service practices.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform the physical duties associated with a high-volume bar.
  • Availability to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays, and high-volume events as scheduled.
What Success Looks Like

A successful Tavern bartender can handle a busy bar confidently while still making guests feel welcomed and well taken care of. Drinks are consistent, tickets move quickly, tabs are accurate, the bar stays clean and organized, and communication with the rest of the team remains strong throughout service.

Most importantly, the bartender understands that speed alone is not enough — great bartending requires speed, consistency, awareness, hospitality, and teamwork.
