Job summary

Select Medical’s Select Specialty Hospital - Birmingham is seeking a Respiratory Therapy Manager to lead the respiratory therapy department in Birmingham, AL. This full-time role drives clinical excellence, staffing, and regulatory compliance while coordinating care with pulmonary physicians to support weaning from ventilation.

The ideal candidate will hold an NBRC-registered RRT, be ACLS-certified (or willing to obtain), and have supervisory experience.

Qualifications

• Current State License.
• Active NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by start date.
• ACLS within 6 months of employment required.
• Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Five years experience as a Respiratory Therapist in an Acute Care setting preferred.
• Two years supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the respiratory therapy department, including staff interviews, hiring decisions, orientation, performance evaluations, training and development, and equipment/inventory management.
• Share responsibility for employee engagement, recruitment and retention.
• Implement company standards of care, policies and procedures.
• Ensure regulatory requirements for respiratory care and point of care are met.
• Create and maintain clinical schedules for safe staffing.
• Maintain clinical cost control.
• Coordinate Wean Team/Pulmonary Rounds and communicate with pulmonary physicians to facilitate/monitor weaning from ventilation.
• Drive clinical excellence through staff development and quality improvement.
• Teach and counsel patients and families.
• Maintain competency in Rapid Response and code events.
• Site-dependent: function as Moderate Complexity Lab Manager over point of care testing and as Safety Officer.
