Job summary

FMOL Health in Lafayette, LA is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to participate in diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. The RRT will initiate and manage life support systems under physician guidance, maintaining patient ventilation and collaborating with care teams.

Responsibilities include ventilator management, arterial sampling, and education of staff on respiratory procedures.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or CoArc-approved equivalent; 10 years experience as licensed therapist substitutes for Associate's Degree
• BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required within 6 months of hire (NRP also required for Women’s and Children’s positions)
• NBRC certification (Certified and Registered) required; NBRC current
• Current Louisiana state license or temporary permit issued by LSBME

Responsibilities

• Complies with departmental and hospital policies and safety/quality standards.
• Records patient care data in EMR or paper documentation for timely access and privacy.
• Consults with physicians on respiratory care procedures and initiates bronchodilator therapy in distress.
• Checks oxygen equipment and respiratory care devices ensuring proper operation and high quality care.
• Prepares and monitors ventilator systems and ensures adequate ventilation during CPR and routine ventilation.
• Administers and assesses respiratory therapy procedures and prepares equipment and medications per physician orders.
• Assesses patient condition and recommends appropriate therapy, collaborating with peers and nursing staff.
• Draws and analyzes arterial samples; teaches arterial puncture procedures to staff; maintains competency in arterial line insertion, intubation, and advanced ventilation.
• Participates in department/hospital committees and professional activities to advance the respiratory therapy profession.
• Performs other duties as assigned
