Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of an Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program with a Diploma or AAS Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
• Current Alabama Respiratory Therapy License issued by the Alabama State Board for Respiratory Care, and Certified with NBRC if credentialed after 2005.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification (may obtain BLS and ACLS within the first 7 days after hospital orientation).
• PALS and NRP will be required within 90 days of hospital orientation if not already current.

Responsibilities

• Administration of mechanical ventilation and related respiratory care procedures.
• Transcription and implementation of physician orders pertaining to respiratory care.
• Assessment, observation and monitoring of patient signs, symptoms, and response to treatments and testing.
• Recommend and implement appropriate respiratory care procedures and protocols based on observed abnormalities.
• Implement changes in treatment pursuant to written physician orders.
