Job summary

Lafayette Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kentucky is seeking a PRN Respiratory Therapist to provide safe, compassionate respiratory care across the lifespan under physician direction.

You will assess patients, administer treatments, manage equipment, monitor responses, and collaborate with the healthcare team to optimize cardiopulmonary function; prior hospital or clinical experience is preferred and BLS certification is required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential preferred/required, depending on facility requirements.
  • Current state license or authorization to practice Respiratory Care.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Previous hospital or clinical respiratory therapy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform respiratory assessments and evaluate patients' cardiopulmonary status.
  • Administer prescribed respiratory treatments, including nebulizer treatments, metered-dose inhalers, and other aerosol therapies.
  • Provide oxygen therapy and monitor oxygen saturation and respiratory status.
  • Perform airway management, suctioning, and secretion clearance as clinically indicated.
  • Assist with the management of patients receiving mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation, including CPAP and BiPAP.
  • Obtain and interpret arterial blood gases and other respiratory diagnostic information as appropriate.
  • Perform and assist with pulmonary function testing and other respiratory procedures.
  • Respond to respiratory emergencies and participate in rapid response or code situations when required.
  • Monitor and document patients' responses to respiratory treatments and interventions.
  • Maintain respiratory equipment and ensure appropriate infection-control and safety practices.
  • Educate patients and families regarding medications, oxygen therapy, breathing techniques, respiratory equipment, and disease management.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Follow hospital policies, professional standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of practice as assigned.

Position Summary

The PRN Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing safe, effective, and compassionate respiratory care to patients across the lifespan, as directed by physicians and established clinical protocols. The Respiratory Therapist evaluates patients, administers respiratory treatments, manages respiratory equipment, monitors patient responses, and collaborates with the healthcare team to optimize cardiopulmonary function.

  • Ability to work in environments requiring appropriate PPE and infection-control precautions.
