Job Summary and Qualifications

The Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with department requirements and standards of practice. As a vital part of the patient care team, the therapist performs diagnostic tests, therapeutic procedures, and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

What you will do in this role:

• Perform and document patient assessments, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure. Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for and response to respiratory therapy.

• Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.

• Assist with placement of artificial airways. Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.

• Monitor patient responses to therapy. Notify providers and intervene as appropriate in case of adverse responses.

• Assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.

• Respond to emergent patient situations, ensuring airway integrity and ventilation during resuscitation as needed.

Qualifications needed:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.

• Neonate Resuscitation must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date.

• STABLE certification must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date.

• State Registered Respiratory Therapist, Licensed Certified Respiratory Therapist (LCRT), or RRT/Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT / RCP).
