Qualifications

Respiratory Therapist Part Time Days - 7457-12396

Description

Examines patients with breathing-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing. Consults with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient. Performs physiotherapy and other treatments and teaches patients to use medications.

Responsibilities

1. Reports to: Director Respiratory Care & Neurodiagnostic Services
2. Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
3. Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
4. Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
5. Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.
6. Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
7. Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
8. Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
9. Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy - Required

Required Skills

• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Computer skills required.

Certifications

• BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required to be current upon hire.
• ACLS & PALS certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required within 12 months of employment, if not current upon hire.
• NRP certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) - Required within 12 months of employment, if not current upon hire.

Licenses

Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Respiratory Care Practitioner with ABG endorsement. Temporary initial licensure letter by the State of Tennessee as a graduate respiratory care practitioner, acceptable, without ABG endorsement, until state licensure is issued.

Work Experience

Minimum of 6 months Respiratory Care experience preferred.
