Job summary

MercyOne is hiring a Respiratory Therapist to assess patients, administer therapy, and coordinate with care teams. Responsibilities include diagnostics, ventilation support, and patient education within a hospital setting.

The position offers a full-time schedule (36 hours weekly) on day shifts, with 12-hour shifts typically 5:30am-6:00pm, and occasional 6am-6:30pm. New grads are welcome and a relocation package is provided.

Qualifications

• Certification from an accredited Respiratory Care Program (CAAHEP)
• NBCRT certification (Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist)
• Iowa licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
• BLS for Healthcare Providers current or obtained within 3 months of hire
• Must complete Mandatory Reporter abuse training within 3 months of hire

Responsibilities

• Performs inhaled medication therapy and a range of ventilation therapies as ordered.
• Assists or performs intubation and manages artificial airway when needed.
• Assembles and troubleshoots Respiratory Care equipment (ventilators, monitors, humidification).
• Interprets diagnostic results from blood gas and pulmonary function testing.
• Maintains patient records and billing documentation.
• Provides patient instruction on respiratory care devices and procedures.

Education

Certificate of completion from an accredited Respiratory Care Program

National Board for Respiratory Care certification

State of Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner license

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Mandatory Reporter abuse training within 3 months
