Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a part-time Respiratory Therapist to provide skilled respiratory care to all patient populations in a fast-paced clinical setting. The role requires 0–3 years of acute care experience, registry eligibility, and DC licensure maintenance.

Schedule includes 7AM-7PM and 7PM-7AM with rotating weekends. The Therapist will perform airway management, oxygen therapy, ventilator support, spirometry, blood gas analysis, and related procedures per physician orders and established

Qualifications

• Associate's degree (AAS) or higher from an AMA accredited program in respiratory care required.
• Bachelor's degree in related healthcare field preferred.
• 0-3 years of acute care experience required.
• Registry eligible required.
• Must process and maintain license to practice Respiratory Care in the District of Columbia.
• CPR certification within 90 days required.
• ACLS NRP PALS and other certifications may be required within a year where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to department goals and adheres to policies, procedures, quality and safety standards.
• Assesses the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions and educational needs of patients.
• Performs respiratory therapies including oxygen, mixed gas, humidity, ventilators, bronchial hygiene, spirometry, EKGs and blood gas analysis.
• Employs therapeutic communication, interviewing, problem solving and crisis intervention during patient care.
• Reviews electronic medical records and physician orders during shifts.
• Responds to CPR, maintains airway, provides oxygen/ventilation, and may perform chest compressions.
• Facilitates workflow efficiency and interdepartmental processes; suggests improvements as needed.
• Performs other duties appropriate to the position as assigned.
