Job description

Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist 2 Outpatient Rehab PRN to join the team.

Job Responsibilities:

• Establishes and manages basic mechanical ventilation with high proficiency and minimal supervision, using the most common ventilators. Uses complex forms of mechanical ventilation (e.g., HFO, NPPV, PRVC, transport) with moderate proficiency and occasional supervision.
• Performs weaning mechanics as ordered, with high proficiency in over 90% of ventilated patients.
• Reviews the need for continued ventilator support (e.g., spontaneous breathing trial, weaning) daily in over 90% of patients, developing or refining ventilator care plans and communicating with the care team.
• Formulates care plans based on patient data, response to therapy, and physiologic profiles, ensuring they align with departmental standards.
• Administers advanced respiratory therapies (e.g., heliox, nitric oxide, CNB, Chest Wall Oscillation) with moderate proficiency and occasional supervision.

Additional Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited CoARC respiratory care program.
• Six months in a critical care environment or over one year of specialized training in advanced diagnostics/pulmonary rehabilitation.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from NBRC or over 10 years of experience as a Certified Respiratory Therapist.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA required upon start.
• Advanced certifications (ACLS, PALS, or NRP) must be obtained within one year of hire.
• Licensed Respiratory Therapist eligible to practice in Virginia.
• Work Schedule: PRN Day shifts.
