Job description

Responsibilities

In addition to the general duties of an RCP I, including competence in patient care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, arterial punctures, continuous ventilation, airway maintenance, emergency care, infection control, isolation procedures, mechanical ventilator operation, CPR, and medical gas administration, the RCP II will also be responsible for neonatal care, including intubation and resuscitation. There is also an opportunity to become certified in adult intubation.

Job Duties:

• Respond to all hospital areas as needed, demonstrating proficiency across departments.
• Accurately document patient interactions and bill accordingly, chart in real-time, and ensure precise billing for services.
• Act as a preceptor for new employees, students, or staff upgrading ICU skills; conduct in-service training for coworkers and RNs.
• Set up, maintain, perform, and monitor various respiratory procedures on ill patients.
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including lung auscultation, chart review, and accurate documentation of services.
• Educate patients and families about pulmonary conditions while maintaining confidentiality.
• Provide neonatal care, including attending deliveries, intubation, and resuscitation.
• Perform EKGs on patients throughout the hospital.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

• At least 2 years of clinical experience in an Acute Care setting, including one in Intensive Care.
• Graduate from a Respiratory Therapy Program, or hold credentials as a Registered or Certified Respiratory Therapist.

Licensure:

• California licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Adult Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Special Skills:

• Ability to handle agitated or uncomfortable patients, maintain confidence, communicate effectively, and work under stress. Maintain accurate records and collaborate harmoniously with team members.

Training:

• Knowledge of cardio-respiratory anatomy, physiology, pathology, biomedical electronics, basic mathematics, chemistry, physics, pharmacology related to respiratory therapy, and infection control. Familiarity with the respiratory care practice act.
