Job summary

Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Care Assistant (RCA) to support respiratory therapy services for patients of all ages in Troy, MI. The role includes following the patient care plan, assisting with oxygen therapy, and helping with non-invasive ventilation as assigned.

Under supervision, you will reinforce education, document care, and participate in competency-based training. This is a part-time evening-shift position with benefits eligibility per policy.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a Respiratory Therapy degree program.
• To work as an RCA, selected candidates must complete training modules and competency check offs.
• Incumbent will be re-evaluated in two years if graduation did not occur.
• Completed the basic therapy clinical rotation in the employee’s college program.
• CRT-BLS (AHA) required.
• CRT-BLS (ARC) required.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to patients with acute and chronic illness under supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
• Follow the patient care plan and manage medication and oxygen setups/titration.
• Set up and monitor non-invasive ventilation as needed (site dependent).
• Perform chart review, electronic documentation, and reinforce patient education.

About Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital

In response to the health care needs of a growing community, in 1977, Corewell opened a new 189-bed hospital on rural farmland in Troy. Today, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital has grown to 530 licensed beds and offers a comprehensive array of health care services, continuing to develop to meet the needs of the growing communities it serves.

Scope of Work Under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, provides care to patients with acute and chronic illness by administering various therapeutic modalities and by providing reinforcement for the education and instruction developed in the patient care plan. Follows the patient care plan as developed by the registered respiratory therapist, adhering to protocols for the delivery of medication and oxygen setups/titration. Set up and monitor patients placed on non-invasive ventilation (depending on site). Equipment processing, including high level disinfection of reusable supplies, oxygen tank maintenance, replenishing of par levels as needed. Performs chart review for verification of orders; provide electronic documentation; provide reinforcement of patient and family education.

• Current enrollment in a Respiratory Therapy degree program.
• To work as an RCA, selected candidates must successfully complete training modules and competency check offs (tailored to their scope of practice) developed by the department.
• Incumbent will be re-evaluated in two years if graduation did not occur.
• Completed the basic therapy clinical rotation in the employee’s perspective college program.
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association required
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross required
