Respiratory Aide

Schedule: PRN, Variable

About the Role

As a Respiratory Aide, you assist respiratory therapists with patient care under direct supervision of a licensed respiratory care practitioner. You will prepare for and provide patient care and support a range of respiratory procedures as part of Haywood Regional Medical Center’s Respiratory Therapy team.

Responsibilities

Prepared to perform the following procedures:

• Oxygen Supply Systems
• Equipment Processing
• Manual Resuscitation
• Oxygen Administration
• Humidity and Aerosol Therapy
• Small Volume Nebulizer Therapy
• MDI Administration
• Incentive Spirometry
• Non‑invasive Mechanical Airway Clearance Therapy
• Chest Physiotherapy with suctioning
• Arterial Puncture
• Electrocardiogram (if performed)
• Patient Reporting

Education and Licenses

• Must be enrolled in a recognized Respiratory Care Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.
• Student must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in all RCP courses and overall average of 2.0.
• Must register with the Board on the required form before performing respiratory care procedures.
• Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Hospital training during two years of Radiologic Technologist program preferred.
• Experience in other x‑ray departments, clinics, or medical offices desirable.
• Belonging to national, state and/or local societies desirable.
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
