Job summary

Spokane Public Schools is seeking a Resource Room Paraeducator to support students with IEP goals. The role involves assisting the special education teacher, aiding instruction in various subjects, and collecting data for progress monitoring.

The position runs 7 hours daily (8:00 AM - 3:30 PM) with an ASAP start date and benefits under SEBB for eligible staff. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent with college credits and be able to lift up to 50 pounds, work with diverse

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and college credits as specified.
• Must complete Core Competencies within one year.
• One year of successful work experience in a school setting preferred.
• Interest in working with students who have disabilities.
• Training or experience with students who have disabilities.
• Ability to respond to aggressive and physical behaviors.
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, kneeling, and bending.
• Willing to toilet or feed special needs students if necessary.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of students, teachers, and families.
• Proficiency in basic math, English, and social studies; basic computer skills.
• Ability to utilize soft restraint and de-escalation techniques.
• Ability to supervise and maintain a safe environment.
• Relates positively to youth and adults from varied backgrounds.
• Must have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education teacher by providing direct instructional support and training to special needs students.
• Assist with designing and developing curriculum in reading, English, social studies, and math under direction of the teacher for use in the resource room.
• Provide support to teacher regarding individual students and program needs and behavior concerns.
• Provide clerical support in the Resource program.
• Other duties as related and assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent; 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits; AA or BA degree; pass an academically rigorous assessment
