Job summary

Spokane Public Schools is seeking a dedicated paraeducator to support Special Education students across classrooms and settings. The role focuses on implementing IEPs, supporting behavior and academic goals, and assisting with mobility and personal care as needed.

The position requires a high school diploma with college credits or an equivalent credential, and a willingness to complete required trainings. Expect a structured schedule with daily hours and opportunities for additional pay

Qualifications

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited college, AA or BA, or pass an academically rigorous assessment.
  • Willingness to complete Core Competencies within one year of hire.
  • Interest in working with students with disabilities.
  • One year of experience or school district experience with students or adults with disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to respond to aggressive and physical behaviors.
  • Must complete District de-escalation/soft restraint training.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and assist with mobility.
  • Provide personal care assistance including feeding and toileting as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in core academic areas as designed by teachers.
  • Assist with implementing student IEPs, 504 plans, and related interventions.
  • Help students access instruction, routines, transitions, inclusion opportunities, and general education settings.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and service providers to adjust supports.
  • Monitor student data and document progress to inform interventions.
  • Utilize assistive technology and adaptive supports as trained.
  • Ensure safety and supervise students across multiple settings.
