Qualifications

  • No travel outside of Amarillo is anticipated.
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) / part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commute to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Responsibilities

  • Research policies and rules in New Mexico and Texas associated with CCN filings.
  • Assist in the preparation of maps, tables, and charts to support Service Area Exceptions (SAE), 440, and MBA.
  • Manage large data files for Regulatory and Subject Matter Expert Teams.
  • Review, edit, and format draft documents for filing.
  • Assist in online filing of documents for Commission review.

This Intern will be working with the SPS Policy Team on Resource Filings in Amarillo, Texas. Primary functions will be learning and assisting in the development of data for Generation and Transmission Certificates of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) filings in Texas and New Mexico. Additional responsibilities will include assisting in the development of support materials such as maps and affidavits for Service Area Exceptions (SAE), 440 (large project notifications), and Minor Boundary Adjustments (MBA). The intern will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects across Texas and New Mexico and work with a diverse team in making key filings for SPS. Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Researching policies and rules in New Mexico and Texas associated with Convenience and Necessity (CCN) filings
  • Assisting in the preparation of maps, tables, and charts to support Service Area Exceptions (SAE), 440 (large project notifications), and Minor Boundary Adjustments (MBA)
  • Managing large data files for Regulatory and Subject Matter Expert Teams
  • Reviewing, editing, and formatting draft documents for filing
  • Assisting in the online filing of documents for Commission review

This position is for a May 31, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Current student, Junior or higher (as of Fall 2027)
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Business Management, Political Science, Business Administration, Pre-Law, Utility Administration, Finance, Government, or related field.
  • No travel outside of Amarillo is anticipated

Non-Bargaining The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $19.30 to $24.50 per hour
