Job summary

Xcel Energy, a leading energy company, is offering a summer internship in Energy Supply Strategy, Governance, and Business Operations. You will assist with leadership presentations, communications materials, and keeping employees informed and aligned with priorities.

The role exposes you to executive communications, governance, and cross-functional collaboration within a complex utility environment. May 24, 2027 start, hybrid in-person work, up to 40 hours weekly in summer.

Qualifications

  • Current student at an accredited college/university.
  • Pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, or Business Administration.
  • Available to work full-time during summer (up to 40 hours/week) and part-time during school year (up to 20 hours/week) on a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and distribute internal communications, announcements, newsletters, and employee engagement materials.
  • Create and update presentations, executive briefing materials, infographics, and other visual tools.
  • Support SharePoint site maintenance, content development, and communication resource management.
  • Review and document business processes; identify improvement opportunities and assist with standardization.
  • Support reporting, meeting coordination, action tracking, and governance documentation.

The intern will support the Energy Supply Strategy, Governance, and Business Operations organization. This team serves as a central coordination function for Energy Supply, providing business planning, governance, and executive communications coordination across the business. The organization works closely with senior leaders to improve visibility to priorities, support organizational effectiveness, enhance communication practices, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The intern will help develop and execute communications that keep employees informed and aligned with business priorities.

Responsibilities may include supporting leadership presentations, creating communication and marketing materials, maintaining SharePoint content, assisting with employee engagement activities, documenting business processes, reviewing workflows for improvement opportunities, and supporting recurring reporting and governance activities.

The position offers exposure to executive communications, business planning, performance reporting, change management, and cross-functional collaboration within a complex utility environment.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Assist in developing and distributing internal communications, announcements, newsletters, and employee engagement materials.
  • Create and update presentations, executive briefing materials, infographics, and other visual communication tools.
  • Support SharePoint site maintenance, content development, and communication resource management.
  • Review and document business processes, identify improvement opportunities, and assist with process standardization efforts.
  • Support business operations activities including reporting, meeting coordination, action tracking, and governance documentation.

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Current student, Junior or higher
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong writing experience and comfortable with building presentations via PowerPoint.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $16.60 to $19.50 per hour
