Job summary

Xcel Energy invites students to join the Southwestern Public Service Company distribution planning team for a Texas and New Mexico focused internship. Based in Lubbock, TX, the program supports distribution planners with modeling, load flow analysis, and Databricks integration, with a May 24, 2027 start date.

Preferred candidates are ABET-eligible electrical engineering students who can commit to summer full-time and part-time school-year schedules under a hybrid policy.

Qualifications

• Current student, Sophomore or higher
• Enrolled in ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Responsibilities

• Support distribution planners through modeling distribution circuits
• Perform load flow analysis
• Databricks integration
• Assist with long-range planning documentation

Internship with the Southwestern Public Service Company distribution planning team focusing on Texas and New Mexico.

This internship provides a great introduction into distribution planning while supporting significant build out across the territory. The internship will be based out of Lubbock, TX.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Interns will be supporting distribution planners through:

• Modeling distribution circuits
• Load flow analysis
• Databricks integration
• Long range planning documentation development

This position is for a May 24th, 2027 start date.

This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Current student, Sophomore or higher

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $21.20 to $24.60 per hour
