Job summary

VisionQuest (VQ) seeks a Cook to deliver nutritious, kid-friendly meals in its residential and program settings. You will plan and prepare meals, adhere to dietary restrictions, and help maintain a safe, welcoming dining environment.

Ideal candidates have a GED or high school diploma, food manager certification, and experience in institutional kitchens; bilingual English/Spanish is preferred. The position requires flexibility and teamwork.

Qualifications

• GED or high school diploma required.
• Previous cook experience in residential or institutional setting preferred.
• Current Food Manager/Handler certificate or ability to obtain after hire.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare well-balanced meals for children, considering dietary restrictions.
• Adhere to provided menus and modify for age groups, balancing nutrition.
• Maintain dietary guidelines and promote healthy eating habits.
• Collaborate with residential staff to communicate dietary requirements.
• Provide input on menu planning and meal quality.
• Participate in team meetings and training on residents' dietary needs.
• Follow strict food safety standards and hygiene practices.
• Ensure kitchen equipment and utensils are clean and sanitized.
• Monitor temperatures and storage to prevent contamination.
• Manage inventory and organize kitchen workflow.
• Work within budget to plan cost-effective meals.
