Job summary

Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Villa Maria School, is seeking a Teaching Assistant-Residential to support emotionally challenged children in a residential facility and in the Villa Maria School system. The role includes assisting in morning tasks, guiding students in class, and ensuring safe, structured routines.

The position works Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, in a 12-month program that combines educational and clinical services for kindergarten through 8th grade.

Qualifications

• Requires effective childcare skills including nurturing, patience, consistency, and ability to apply effective discipline and behavior management techniques.
• Ability to assess problem situations and apply the most effective yet least restrictive intervention.
• Ability to obtain and maintain TCI certification.
• Ability to use computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with lesson plans execution and provide 1:1 or small-group instruction.
• Serve as substitute for absent teachers.
• Be a positive role model and supervise children during activities.
• Escort children between residence and Villa Maria School and to appointments.
• Provide crisis intervention and deescalation when needed.
• Communicate progress with teachers, parents, therapists, and counselors.
• Provide 1:1 or small-group coverage as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
