Job summary

ION Solar is seeking a Solar Field Design Specialist to support our Engineering and Design teams with field-based insights. You will review project photos, assess site conditions, and ensure plansets align with real-world installation scenarios.

The ideal candidate has hands-on residential solar installation experience and can translate design decisions into practical, install-ready guidance for our engineers and designers. This is an office-focused role with occasional site visits.

Qualifications

1–2 years hands-on residential solar installation experience required.
Ability to interpret solar plansets and electrical drawings.
Strong understanding of residential electrical systems and solar equipment.
Experience reviewing field information and photos for installation feasibility.

Responsibilities

Review project photos, site documentation, and field information to identify potential installation concerns.
Evaluate proposed solar designs and plansets from a field installer perspective.
Partner with Engineering and Design teams to provide practical installation feedback.
Identify discrepancies between field conditions and proposed plansets.
Determine whether equipment, layouts, electrical configurations, and methods are practical for field conditions.
Provide recommendations to Engineering when field conditions require design adjustments.
Help Engineering understand roof conditions, electrical equipment, conduit routing, and site access impact on installation.
Review photos for issues that could cause delays or change orders.
Communicate with internal teams regarding project-specific concerns.
