Job summary

City of Foley, AL is seeking a residential sanitation driver with a CDL to operate garbage, recycling, and knuckle-boom trucks on designated routes under supervision.

You will lead other crew members, perform routine maintenance, assemble and deliver cans, and coordinate with public and city staff while following established safety procedures.

A High School Diploma and valid CDL Class A or B are required, with background checks, drug screening, and a pre-employment physical.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position operates residential garbage, recycling, and boom trucks that require a Commercial Driver’s license (CDL). Follows set sanitation routes and acts as a lead person to other employees working on the truck. Performs work in a highly structured environment with orderly established procedures and processes. Reports to the Residential Sanitation Crew Leader.

Essential Functions

• Drives and operates garbage trucks/recycle trucks on designated routes and acts as a lead person to other employees while ensuring their safety.
• Drives and operates knuckle boom loader for the collection and removal of limbs, yard debris and other trash in a safe manner.
• Drives flatbed truck for the collection and removal of land fill and bulk item trash.
• Assembles and delivers new garbage cans and recycling bins.
• Refers to work orders, written/spoken instructions, route schedules, maps, personnel policies, and related information and regulations.
• Interacts and communicates with a wide variety of groups and individuals to include the general public, co-workers, Department Heads, Supervisors, office staff, and landfill personnel.
• Operates a variety of machinery and/or equipment to include garbage trucks, recycle trucks, knuckle boom truck, flatbed trucks, and other City vehicles.
• Utilizes a variety of tools such as power drills, grease gun, and pressure washer.
• Greases ASL garbage and recycle trucks, rear-loading garbage and recycle trucks, and knuckle boom trucks.
• Assists other departments within the City of Foley during emergencies, special events, or other circumstances.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of experience in a job related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
