The City of Garland is seeking a Sanitation Driver responsible for operating solid waste vehicles, collecting and transporting waste materials to transfer stations or landfills. The position requires physical stamina, adherence to safety standards, and effective customer service.
Qualifications include a Class A Commercial Driver's License, six months of related experience, and the ability to perform routine equipment maintenance. The role involves working in various weather conditions and requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Responsible for operating a variety of solid waste vehicles to collect and transport solid waste and recycling materials to the transfer station and/or landfill for disposal on a daily basis. Perform physically demanding duties during strenuous weather conditions. Also, responsible for the efficient operation and care of assigned equipment.
The candidate will be selected for either a Sanitation Driver I or II position based on their experience and qualifications.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Education/ Experience:
The incumbent works primarily in a vehicle while loading solid waste and recyclable materials; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. 8-10 hours drive time on a daily basis in all weather conditions. Must possess sufficient vision to accurately read written and typed documents.
