Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Experience in a psychiatric hospital setting as a mental health or behavioral assistant working with adults and/or children -OR- completion of 12 college credits preferred.
• Basic skills in cleaning, cooking, and meal preparation.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations in stressful and ambiguous situations.
• Basic computer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office and/or competency with electronic clinic documentation.
• Demonstrates ability to multi-task under stressful situations.
• Must complete within first 90 days of employment: first aid, food safety, comorbid disorders, trauma-informed care.
• Individuals working with addictions services must be free from problematic substance use for two years prior to hire.
• Internal applicants should attach their three most recent performance appraisals.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• The Psychiatric Technician is part of the residential hospital-based psych emergency services team and supports direct and indirect patient care.
• Promotes involvement in the treatment program under the direction of a registered nurse.
• Assists residents in social, clinical, nutritional, and observational activities to ensure safe milieu and optimal outcomes.
• Leads social activities, games and crafts to engage residents in milieu and therapy concepts.
